It's near the end of the year 2006 now, and I've been perusing your website on Al's life, the past couple of days. My ex-wife (Leah Marks) and I took a class or two from Al, I believe that must have been in the late 1970's.
So I wasn't around Al very much in terms of absolute time, but for some reason that doesn't matter. I felt so sad yesterday and today, seeing pictures of him and reading letters about his life.
The truth is that Al Molina made a difference in SO many people's lives, because of the kind of person he was, and the kind of teacher he was, and he made that difference, even if you were around him only briefly. That's the magic of Al.
So I feel sad, though Al's been gone for almost ten years, yet that also is the magic.....because he is NOT gone.....he touched so many of our lives and changed our perspective on teaching, and on natural history, botany, marine biology, etc.
Thus, on this late afternoon on a December day in 2006, I'm both sad and happy......happy realizing just how many great years people got to spend with Al, and how many great moments were shared across all of those people, including myself....
